In March 2009, Coapt Systems distributed Novielle Gel, Novielle Gel Plus and Novielle Voice to dermatologists and plastic surgeons throughout the United States. These products were not FDA approved for the correction of facial lipoatrophy (fat loss) or wrinkles. Physicians and nurses were instructed how to inject into the face by Coapt representatives, (non-medical personnel). Several patients experienced adverse outcomes and the product was removed from physician offices within days after distribution.
